Jon Kostyniuk, P.Eng., is a senior transportation engineer and planner with over two decades of experience spanning municipal leadership and consulting practice. His work centres on the practical delivery and long-term operation of transportation systems — aligning strategy, modelling, infrastructure, governance, and real-world constraints into coherent, maintainable programs.
With a foundation in transportation modelling, systems integration, and municipal operations, Jon has led initiatives involving advanced traffic management systems, fibre and communications planning, signal operations, automated enforcement, and transportation management centre development. His perspective is grounded in implementation: systems must not only perform analytically, but remain governable, supportable, and defensible over time.
In recent years, Jon’s work has increasingly focused on the structured integration of artificial intelligence into transportation engineering practice. Through applied research, industry collaboration, and hands-on system development, he advances responsible AI adoption — emphasizing professional oversight, human-in-the-loop engineering judgment, and alignment with public-sector governance frameworks.
He is a Professional Engineer in Ontario and remains active in national industry initiatives shaping the future of transportation systems and engineering practice.
